How do I install the scanner on Windows XP Embedded?
Microsoft Windows XP Embedded operating system (OS) is a scaled down version of the Microsoft Windows XP OS with only the essential components needed for the OS to function. Thin-Client vendors like Neoware and Wyse select the optional components they require for their thin client devices that results in customized OS to suit their needs. Often, the optional components do not include USB scanning devices and/or TWAIN/WIA support which cause the scanner installation to fail.
Follow the instructions below install the scanner on a Neoware workstation running on Windows XPe OS: 1. Obtain a copy of a snap-in that says “Microsoft Windows Image Acquisition (WIA) and USB v2.0 Adapter Support” from Neoware. Select that snap-in, download and install it. You should use the EZ Remote manager to install the snap-in on your Neoware Workstation. Note: Neoware may require a license key for the download. We will not be able to support you with the installation of the snap-in. Please contact Neoware technical support if you need help in downloading and/or installing the snap-in. 3. After completing the installation of the required snap-in, download the appropriate scanner driver from our website. You’ll either need to download the driver to a mapped network drive location or locally on the Neoware workstation. 4. Attached the scanner to the Neoware workstation. The “Found New Hardware” wizard should appear. Install the scanner normally and obtain the driver from your download location. If you require a file called USBScan.Sys, it is also available at our website.
